Born and raised in a small town in south Louisiana...
I come from modest beginnings. My story, is much like others, filled with triumphs and failures. Its a life filled with people who helped tear me down, and of course with those who helped lift me up. Like so many others I owe much to those who wouldn't let me fail, many who are no longer with us. I hope to honor them with my life and my work as a teacher.
My studio work is driven by my life, events in my life and the emotions I recall from those specific events. They are literal visual explorations of my emotions.
My design work is inspired by the old and forgotten, the true beauty of the ephemoral. The pieces of art that if only for a short while were ever truly cherished for a second, then discarded only to reappear in our minds to conjure nostalgic moments.

In August 2010 Jacob Cotton was hired by Northeastern State University in Tahlequah Oklahoma as an Assistant Professor to teach Graphic Design courses in everything ranging from Web Design and Multimedia to Typography and Illustration. In January of 2011 he was promoted to Coordinator of the Art Program, as coordinator he has overseen the construction of a new graphics lab, the creation of a completely new degree (BFA) as well as several other major program updates and facility improvements.

Jacob Cotton attended Louisiana Tech University for 7 years attaining a BFA in Communication Design, a BFA in Studio Art and an MFA in Communication Design. As a student he was president of both the Student Artists' Guild and Underground Graphics the student run design organization. He also worked as the studio hall administrator and as a graduate assistant where he was the professor on record for several courses.
